Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions

The Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC) is something I've become more familiar with, by simply attending local meetings of the Madison Environmental Commission.  I see these environmental commissions as a really hopeful mechanism for citizen influence on environmental policy at a local level.  Environmental concerns seems to be a really uniting influence.

ANJEC has resources for creating an Environmental Resource Inventory (ERI) on their website: http://www.anjec.org/ (see specifically, http://www.anjec.org/pdfs/ERI2013.pdf).  I really like this document.  It puts the idea of ERI within reach for any community.  I've viewed Madison's ERI, which also counts toward points in the Sustainable Jersey certification process  (http://nj-madisonborough.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/1572).  Sara Webb also helped with the vegetation portion of  Madison's document.

None of the cities in New Jersey have ERIs.  Newark aims to be the first one.  I am really looking forward to being part of the team to help put the inventory together.
